Designer Silk Lamp Shades
The Rage of the Hollywood Set Designers (2004)

Last summer it was "Italian Job" and "What Women Want", which featured the styles from Cindy Ciskwoski. This season, we see them in two other new movies.

"21 Grams" with Sean Penn, in the dinner scene we can easily enjoy the homey warmth of the Tondo lamp. Also in the scene, a floor lamp St. Tropez with the "vert" shade. Coincidentally, House Beautiful's February 2004 issue features the same lamp.

"Something's Got to Give" with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, featured several scenes with the elegantly styled lamps. In the opening scene, the Duchess table lamp with ivory silk shade flanked either side of the couch in the living room. The Tondo table lamp with ivory silk shade was seen on Diane Keaton's writing desk.

In all of the scenes, the set decorator's strategy uses the lighting to elevate the actor's warmth and intimacy. The lamps take a prominent place in the background, while the actors in the foreground make their magic. Taken together, it's another case of "deja vu all over again!"
